Aine Corr - The Dreams We Have As Children 1200 x 1200.jpg

The Dreams We Have as Children

£1,500.00

‘The Dreams We Have as Children’

Mixed media on deep edge canvas 100 x 100 cm

A totemic white stag stands proudly at the heart of this richly layered mixed-media painting. Initially by a statue in my local town, Bishop’s Stortford. The stag, a powerful symbol found in mythologies across the world, speaks of transformation, guidance, and elusive dreams.

The background glows with vivid, fiery orange and golden tones—drawn from the memory of a plump pigeon feasting on pyracantha berries in my garden—bringing warmth and wild garden energy to the piece. In each corner bloom bold, stylised yellow roses: emblems of beauty, memory, and joy.

Beneath the surface lies an archaeology of hidden meanings. The first layer includes collaged local landmarks and secret fragments—some still peeking through like ghostly time capsules. Among them is a quote from Rocky Balboa:

“Now if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth…”—a quiet but persistent message of resilience and self belief.

Snails, tiny but deliberate guest stars, creep along the edges in homage to the humorous and intricate marginalia found in medieval illuminated manuscripts.

This painting invites the viewer to look closer, to unearth its layers and meanings, and to dream freely. A piece full of symbolism, childhood wonder and joy.
